Write a short story. Markets like Woman's World Magazine pay top dollar for romance and short mysteries. They also pay short real-life pieces. True stories and true confessions are another way to earn a few dollars.Write nonfiction. Chicken Soup for the Soul and other publications like that are always looking for great nonfiction stories. Their pay is very decent, and there are many different topics to choose from. Watch anthology calls for delivery in genres such as fantasy, science fiction and mystery.
Write your life. What do you do when you don't write? Are you a wife and full-time mother? Stay at father's house? What is your "day" job? Do you qualify for fitness and nutrition, business and finance? Maybe you make jewelry, or you are an artist. Or are you on a business trip or for pleasure. Maybe you are a designer or interior decorator to a Feng Shui expert?
Write for magazines. Many business magazines and blogs out there are willing to pay for your articles on any subject from Parenting to Finance & Insurance to Stretching Your Dollars. Magazines about Fitness, RV or Travel, and Blogs. One example is About.com who is willing to pay properly for articles or blog posts on a number of topics.
Write an ebook. What is your passion, your expertise? Are you a Spiritual Mentor or Life Coach? There are many people who like the story of self-help or about success! Writing and publishing ebooks can add your credentials and client base and increase your income.
Interesting articles that are liked by many people, generally will take the topic of how to generate ideas and make them happen.

Teach others to write. Some local colleges or universities provide more relaxed learning writing courses. Choose one and see what happens! Become a mentor or coach to write and work directly with new or aspirational writers. Teaching can also take place in the library.
